Society Bistro serves colonial Hainanese style western food which can be found in Malaysia and Singapore where the Hainanese had served as cooks in the residences of the British in the 1890s and 1900s.
Some of the more entreprising ones had set up restaurants serving western food. Many such establishments, such as the famed Le Coq D’or in Kuala Lumpur, have since long gone.
Society Bistro strives to keep this unique colonial food alive. Here, a bit of history can still be savoured, notably, Chicken Maryland and Hainanese Chicken Chop.
